A senior Palestinian official has said Zimbabwe will prevail in the war against sanctions imposed on the country over 2 decades ago.

Mr. Ibrahim Aouelnaga a member of the Advisory Council of Fatah Movement, representing the Palestinian Liberation Organization(PLO), who is the country to attend the 7th ZANU PF National People’s Congress told journalists in Harare, Thursday that the congress is a “challenge” conference which represents Zimbabwean war against illegal sanctions.

“I want to congratulate our friends and comrades in Zimbabwe for organising the Zanu PF congress. We consider this conference very important and we call it as President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas mentioned that the Zanu PF congress is the challenge conference…

Zimbabwe will win the battle against sanctions in the same manner it dismissed the Smith regime which had occupied Zimbabwe with impunity,” he said.

Mr Aouelnaga is heading a Palestinian delegation to the Congress which is running until the 29th of October 2022.

In his address at the presser, Mr Aouelnaga drew lots of similarities in the Zimbabwean and Palestinian stories and assured that Palestine will continue to support Zimbabwe against illegal sanctions.

“We are here to support the congress and we want this congress to represent the Zimbabwean unification against the illegal sanctions, which are refused totally from our Palestinian side. We have a lot of similarities between the Zimbabwean and the Palestinian stories because we all suffered from the colonial regimes…

“In Palestine we suffer a new massacre and a new crime committed by the Israeli apartheid occupation,” he said.

Palestine and Israel have been embroiled in a territorial conflict that has spanned over many decades but the Palestinian people are usually on the receiving end. Similarly, Zimbabwe has been under illegal sanctions imposed by Britain and its western allies for more than two decades now, and this has stalled progress and slowed national development plans.

Zimbabwe has for long supported the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and supports the initiatives that should lead to realizing the legitimate rights of the People of Palestine. For this, Mr Aouelnaga thanked Zimbabwe for always standing in solidarity with the people of Palestine.

Speaking at the same press conference Mr. Mahmoud Wawi who is part of the delegation and a member of the Revolutionary Council of the Fatah Movement thanked ZANU pf for extending an invitation to Palestine to attend the Congress.

Mr Wawi pledged solidarity with Zimbabwe and said there are many prospects of future cooperation between the peoples of the two friendly countries.

Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Zimbabwe, Tamer Almassri weighed in saying that Zimbabwe and Palestine have a common task to upgrade and strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the ZANU PF National People’s Congress currently underway in Harare is running under the theme, “Building a prosperous Zimbabwe, Leaving no one and no place behind”.
