A house belonging to a murder suspect who is accused of murdering two Zimbabwean females in Thembisa, South Africa was burnt to ashes by fellow South Africans after irate residents protested against the gruesome murder.
The owner of the house, who is a South African citizen, is said to have invited the now deceased two Zimbabwean nationals sometime in October for a job offer and took them to the work station which was said to be far from their residency.
Before going for the ‘job’, one of the ladies asked her neighbour to look after her kids whilst she went to check the job offer.
However, after 5 days without hearing from the ladies, the neighbour became suspicious and phoned the man who said the ladies were too busy to communicate, and would come back once they are done with work.
The neighbour then decided to report the matter to the police and possibly file a missing person report.
But the officers at Thembisa Police Station (Ivory Park) are said to have taken the report lightly and advised the neighbour to return another day if the ladies do not come back.
Knowing 5 days had already lapsed, the neighbour approached the community group, known as Mphakathi which then went straight to put pressure on the Police to kick-start investigations.
Mphakhati, who advocate for community rights and societal well being, threatened to torch the police station if the case was not handled with urgency.
With the help of community members, the police was led to the house of the suspect, who lived in the same neighbourhood.
They found him at home and upon interrogation, the man admitted that he indeed had taken the ladies, and later led the police to where the lifeless bodies of the deceased where hidden. It is reported that some body parts had been removed.
In an act of mob justice, Mphakhati members assaulted the man and burnt his house.
The man has since been arrested.
Names of the two deceased Zimbabwean nationals are not yet released.
