The European Union is committed to a constructive engagement based on shared values and interests with Zimbabwe, a delegation currently attached to Zimbabwe has said.

The delegation is keen on seeing the country succeed in attaining its Vision 2030 based on trust. This was announced in a statement to mark Europe Day 2023.

Europe day was consummated  73 years ago,  five years after the end of World War II, on 9 May 1950, by  the French Minister of Foreign Affairs Robert Schuman who called for the unification of Europe to make war on the continent impossible and spread peace and prosperity globally.

The day is each year celebrated by the 450 million citizens of Europe celebrating the European dream and the founding values under the common motto: “United in Diversity.”

According to the European Delegation  in Harare, 27 countries form a Union based on democratic pluralism, an open and supportive economy, and a keen sense of responsibility in the world.

This year, to mark Europe Day in Harare, the EU and the EU Member States will be celebrating Europe Day at an event on Friday 12 May that will host government representatives, diplomatic corps, international organisations, and civil society, including implementing partners, private sector, political stakeholders, cultural sector, and media community.

Participants will be able to better know and understand the different EU and the EU Member States cultures and to experience its motto in action.

Meanwhile, The European Union delegation in Zimbabwe will this year join efforts with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) in an exciting project dubbed the “Culture Month”.

The project will result in the hosting of cultural activities across the country’s 10 Provinces to celebrate the richness and power of cultural diversity.

Some of the activities  lined up according to a communique issued by the European union will see Chitungwiza hosting an arts exhibition, while Matopos in Matebeleland South will host a culinary exchange programme and a story telling day with school children.

Among other ongoing activities, the EU delegation and the EU member States Embassies will offer the #Europeonaplate series through social media platforms, food enthusiasts can learn and follow different recipes from all around Europe: Poland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, France, Portugal, Belgium among others.

The national launch for the Culture Month is scheduled to take place in Binga.
