Zimbabwe will host a three-day Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) Africa Regional Workshop in Victoria Falls in 2024 following a successful bid to host the prestigious event submitted earlier by government.
The development was announced during a Cabinet briefing today by the Minister of Information and Publicity Hon Jenfan Muswere.
“The nation is being informed that Zimbabwe will host a three-day Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) Africa Regional Workshop in Victoria Falls in 2024,” said Minister Muswere.
“Cabinet considered and approved the request for Zimbabwe to host the United Nations Framework on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Regional Workshop in 2024 as presented by the Minister of Environment, Climate and Wildlife, Honourable Mangaliso Ndlovu.
The minister said hosting the event will benefit the country through having more experts participating, earning more foreign currency, and presenting an opportunity to market the country as a safe travel and tourism destination.
Zimbabwe is currently pushing a developmental agenda that is premised on transforming the Zimbabwean economy into an Upper Middle Income Economy by the year 2030.
The national vision, dubbed Vision 2030 also underpins strategies to mitigate climate change.
Hosting the symposium will their feed into the national vision whilst strengthening regional strategies to mitigate climate change.
The Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) is a constituted Body under the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement. Its mandate is to provide technical advice and support to developing country Parties in fulfilling their reporting requirements on adaptation, mitigation and support needed for climate action.
Costs associated with hosting the workshop will be covered by the UNFCC Secretariat.
