In a recent visit to Mimosa Mining Company in Zvishavane, Deputy Minister of Mines, Honorable Polite Kambamura, lauded the company’s plant optimization project for its potential to enhance efficiency and profitability. The Deputy Minister expressed his support, stating, “The future is bright for the people of Mberengwa. Mimosa is in for the people and we look forward to other mining companies to follow this good example that Mimosa mine has set.”
The plant optimization project, aimed at improving plant recoveries and performance, addresses the natural decline in machine efficiency over time. By fine-tuning the plant and replacing aging components, Mimosa aims to maximize productivity and maintain a competitive edge in the mining industry. Honorable Kambamura commended the company’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements.
During his visit, the Deputy Minister also highlighted two other significant projects undertaken by Mimosa. The North Hill project, which received an impressive investment of $134 million, has progressed from exploration to mine construction. This development, alongside the other deposits, will contribute to the overall growth and sustainability of Mimosa.
Mimosa’s dedication to responsible mining practices is further exemplified by the construction of a new tailings dam with a storage capacity of approximately 110 million tons. This innovative solution not only ensures safe storage but also allows for the potential retreatment of the old tailings dam as it nears the end of its lifespan. The company’s forward-thinking approach aligns with their commitment to environmental sustainability and future mineral recovery.
Despite facing international metal price fluctuations, Mimosa has prioritized job security for approximately 3,800 employees. The company has implemented measures to weather market turbulences, setting an inspiring example for other mining companies in the region.
In addition to their mining operations, Mimosa has made significant strides in corporate social responsibility. Honorable Kambamura had the opportunity to visit the Mberengwa Clinic, a flagship project by Mimosa. The clinic now boasts newly constructed wards for male and female patients, a state-of-the-art administration block, laundry equipment, and a mortuary capable of holding 12 bodies. Mimosa’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure directly contributes to President Mnangagwa’s vision of inclusive development.
Deputy Minister Kambamura praised Mimosa’s dedication, stating, “Mimosa is walking the talk and following the President’s mantra of leaving no one behind and no place behind. They are bringing health right to the people.” He expressed optimism for the future of Mberengwa and encouraged other mining companies to emulate Mimosa’s exemplary practices.
As Mimosa Mining Company continues to prioritize plant optimization, community development, and job security, the company’s efforts are poised to leave a lasting impact. Their commitment to responsible mining practices and corporate social responsibility sets a benchmark for the industry, ensuring a brighter future for both the people of Mberengwa and the mining sector as a whole.
