Football enthusiasts attending soccer matches in stadiums for the 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League have been prohibited from bringing bottles, cans, cooler boxes, push carts, and buckets to the venues.

The directive, issued by the PSL, aims to mitigate risks associated with these items being used as weapons or projectiles during incidents of violence in stadiums.

The PSL’s pronouncememt at the start of the season indicates commitment to ensuring an incident free soccer season.

In a statement dated March 10, PSL Communications and Media Liaison Officer, Kudzai Bare, stated:

“This serves to advise that for safety and security purposes, objects such as bottles, cans, cooler boxes, pushcarts, buckets, and other items that may be used as weapons or projectiles, or pose a threat to the safety of others, are prohibited during Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches.

“Security officials will conduct thorough searches at entry points, and individuals found in possession of prohibited objects will be denied entry.”

The Zimbabwean soccer season promises to be exciting, particularly with the return of Khama Billiat and Kuda Mahachi to the premier league.

Billiat was signed by Yadah FC while Mahachi is at Manica Diamonds. The two players have since generated interest among sports enthusiasts and are expected to attract large crowds to the stadiums.

Maintaining good fan behavior and fostering a culture of nonviolence is crucial in the success of the game of football, especially at a time Zimbabwe is back on international football after the lifting of the FIFA ban.
