National Culture Month Commemorations Close with Call to Preserve Zimbabwean Heritage

The Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe,  Colonel (RTD) Kembo Mohadi, marked the closure of the Culture Month Commemorations with a call to uphold and preserve the nation’s rich cultural heritage. The closing ceremony took place at Marega Primary School under Chief Garahwa in Chipinge District, Manicaland Province, on May 31, 2024.
In his address, Vice President Mohadi extended gratitude to various dignitaries present, including government officials, traditional leaders, cultural practitioners, and members of the diplomatic corps. He particularly acknowledged the efforts of the First Lady, Amai Mnangagwa, in elevating Zimbabwean culture through innovative programs aimed at celebrating the country’s unique traditions.

Under the theme “Our Culture, Building Zimbabwe Brick by Brick,” Vice President Mohadi emphasized the resilience of Zimbabweans in nation-building despite challenges such as economic sanctions. He reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving President Cde Dr E.D. Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 of an empowered and prosperous upper middle-income society.
He highlighted the importance of cultural renaissance in realizing Zimbabwe’s potential and urged the youth to embrace their heritage. He emphasized the need to combat societal ills like drug abuse and gender-based violence, calling for collaboration among government agencies, educational institutions, traditional leaders, and civil society organizations.

The Vice President  commended the quality of cultural exhibitions at the event and urged ZIMTRADE to explore opportunities for exporting Zimbabwean cultural products. He encouraged Zimbabweans, including those in the diaspora, to celebrate and monetize their cultural heritage, showcasing diversity through various artistic expressions.
Furthermore, Vice President Mohadi urged citizens to explore the country’s cultural diversity by participating in cultural tourism activities. He praised initiatives like the First Lady’s Cookout Competitions for promoting local cuisine and stimulating economic growth.
Vice President Mohadi declared the National Culture Month Commemorations officially closed, urging continued efforts to respect and honor Zimbabwean culture. He called for ongoing dialogue and engagement to foster social cohesion and inclusivity across the nation.
The ceremony concluded with a renewed commitment to preserving Zimbabwe’s cultural identity and promoting unity and prosperity for all citizens.
