Israeli Prisons Denounced as Worse than Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib

The Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Zimbabwe , Dr. Tamer Almassri, has condemned the appalling human rights violations against Palestinian prisoners, women, and girls in Israeli detention centers and prisons. Describing the conditions as worse than Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib, Dr. Almassri described the treatment of Palestinian detainees as “brutal” and “inhumane”.

According to reports, over 3300 Palestinians from Gaza and 9000 from the West Bank, including 300 women and 635 minors, have been arrested and subjected to torture, beatings, and extrajudicial killings. At least 27 Palestinian detainees from Gaza have died during interrogation due to torture or denial of medical treatment.

The Palestinian Authority has also accused Israel of kidnapping and returning the bodies of martyrs without organs, suggesting possible involvement in the sale of human organs.

The occupation authorities have also been accused of escalating violence against journalists, with 80 arrests and 144 killings reported. Palestinian women and girls are subjected to extrajudicial executions, threats of rape, starvation, denial of healthcare, and humiliation by Israeli interrogators.

The State of Palestine has called on the international community to hold Israel accountable for its obligations under international law to uphold the right to life, safety, health, and dignity of Palestinian women and girls.

The latest developments come as the Israeli occupation forces committed seven massacres against families in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, resulting in 71 deaths and 182 injuries. The total death toll from the Israeli onslaught has risen to 36,550, with 82,959 injuries reported.

The Israeli occupying power continues to use starvation as a means of war against 2.2 million Palestinians in Gaza, with several deaths recorded.

The international community has been urged to take immediate action to stop the genocide and war crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people.
