Former ZANU PF youth member Sybeth Musengezi has reported that a group of armed men claiming to be detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Law and Order division visited his residence on August 2. According to Musengezi, the men, who identified themselves as CID personnel, demanded to see him, but he was not home at the time.

Musengezi’s legal representatives, Ncube Attorneys, detailed the incident in a letter addressed to the Officer In-Charge at CID Law and Order, Harare Central. The letter states that one of the men, during a phone conversation, identified himself as Officer Mangani and expressed the intention to interview Musengezi.

In response to this unexpected visit, Ncube Attorneys have formally requested confirmation from the CID office to verify if they are indeed seeking Musengezi. The legal team has proposed a meeting on August 23 at 1530 hours and intends to accompany Musengezi to ensure his safety and clarify the situation.

Musengezi’s legal challenges have been ongoing since his arrest in 2022. He is accused of providing a false address to join ZANU PF. Recently, his legal team applied for discharge at the close of the state’s case, arguing that the evidence presented was insufficient and the witnesses unreliable. The state has called several witnesses, including ZANU PF officials and a police investigator, but the defense has consistently questioned their credibility. The ruling on this application for discharge is expected to be made on August 23, the same day Musengezi intends to visit the police station.

As of now, Musengezi’s legal team awaits a response from the CID Law and Order office to arrange the proposed meeting and clarify the intentions behind the detect
