Harare, August 7, 2024 – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called for national unity and prayer as Zimbabwe prepares to host the 44th Ordinary Session of the SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, where the country will assume the chairmanship of the regional body.
Addressing the Presidential National Day of Prayer at State House, President Mnangagwa urged the nation to seek God’s guidance and wisdom in all endeavors, citing Psalm 127:1, “Unless the LORD builds the house, they that build it labour in vain.”
The President expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the peace, unity, and harmony prevailing in the country, despite challenges such as illegal sanctions and climate change-induced droughts.
He highlighted the country’s achievements, including the introduction of the Zimbabwe Gold Currency (ZiG), infrastructure development, and community-driven engagements to strengthen national cohesion and unity.
President Mnangagwa also called for prayer and support for those affected by the El-Nino-induced drought and urged the Church and stakeholders to contribute to relief efforts.
As Zimbabwe assumes the SADC chairmanship, the President invited the nation to pray for divine guidance and wisdom, citing Proverbs 3:6, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.”
The event was attended by government officials, clergy, and citizens, who joined in prayer and declarations based on extracts from the Bible.
