The ambassador commended Zimbabwe’s President for bringing global attention to the ongoing challenges faced by Palestinians, which he described as the “last occupation of the 21st century.” President Mnangagwa’s strong stance against the Israeli occupation and his appeal for the international community to uphold principles of justice and equality were seen as crucial steps in fostering a more just and equitable world order.

In the address Zimbabwe underscored the urgency of the international community’s role, stating: “The time for mere rhetoric is long past. The international community cannot continue to turn a blind eye or be numb to the systematic injustices and suffering of the Palestinian people. We call upon the Security Council to fulfill its mandate by implementing robust measures that ensure the protection of civilians, the upholding of international law, the facilitation of a just and lasting peace.”
As Israel’s actions in the West Bank and Lebanon escalate, Dr. Almassri expressed hope that President Mnangagwa’s courage in supporting Palestine at such a critical juncture would inspire other nations to take similar stands within international forums. He further emphasized that Zimbabwe’s leadership on this issue shines as a beacon of hope, especially in times of growing regional tensions.
“The solidarity demonstrated by President Mnangagwa offers much-needed inspiration for the global community to rally in support of Palestinian rights,” concluded Dr. Almassri, noting that it is only through such collective efforts that justice, peace, and self-determination for the Palestinian people can be achieved.
