At a time when criticism has been directed towards Daisy Mtukudzi, the widow of the late national hero Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, over her disputes with stepdaughters Selmor, Sandra and Sybel, Sir Wicknell Chivhayo has gifted her a 2024 Toyota Fortuner 2.4D.
The flamboyant business tycoon has been giving out vehicles to various celebrities over the past months and has also gifted children and wives of prominent figures as a gesture of appreciation for the contributions made by the living and deceased.
Chivayo praised the late music icon, who produced an impressive 66 albums throughout his career, for touching the hearts of many with his music before he passed away in 2019.
Posting on his social media platforms after a hiatus from gifting, Chivhayo honored the late crooner as an “oasis of knowledge.”
“When I listen to the rich, poetic, and deeply thoughtful lyrics of songs like ‘Hazvireve rudo handina,’ ‘Mutserendende,’ or ‘Right Direction’—to name just a few, which are among my favorite tracks by the legendary musician Dr. Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi—I cannot help but acknowledge how much of a musical genius Tuku was!
“The majority of your songs had deep, subtle meanings, filled with wisdom and intellectual advice that would require a sharp and concentrated mind like mine to understand.
“You were our national pride, and your signature husky voice transcended international borders, setting you apart from any other musician to emerge from Zimbabwe or Southern Africa,” he said.
Mtukudzi’s life was commemorated last week at Pakare Paya, but the main takeaway from the event was Selmor Mtukudzi’s emotional breakdown on stage as she complained about how her stepmother, Daisy, was treating her step daughters. This led to public outcry with many castigating Daisy.
A follow-up interview with Ollah 7 further escalated the situation, as Sandra and Selmor shared harrowing testimonies about their experiences living with their stepmother and the neglect they felt.
