Israel has intensified its military operations in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon since October 2023, raising concerns about a broader regional conflict. In the last 24 hours, Israeli forces launched airstrikes on Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip, killing at least 60 Palestinians, mostly women and children, according to local health officials. The total Palestinian death toll has now reached 41,638, with over 96,359 reported injured.
The escalation comes amid growing criticism over Israel’s military actions, which are backed by some international powers. Human rights organizations and Palestinian authorities accuse Israel of violating international law and committing war crimes. The continued violence has drawn calls for immediate intervention by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Dr. Tamer Almassri, the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Zimbabwe, condemned Israel’s actions and called for urgent international response. “The absence of deterrence for Israel’s actions has led to repeated violations of international law, pushing the region to the brink of disaster,” said Dr. Almassri. He urged the UNSC to implement coercive measures against Israel and hold its leadership accountable.
So far, no decisive action has been taken, raising fears that the conflict could spread further across the region. International observers warn that without urgent diplomatic intervention, the violence could destabilize the Middle East, with potential consequences for global security.
