Rising gospel musician Mupositori Tatenda Maware has joined the ranks of artists produced by the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe, making a significant impact in the country’s gospel music landscape.
Known as “Famba Mupositori,” Maware is gaining recognition for his gospel tracks, which have resonated with many listeners. His music showcases raw talent and suggests he is on track to become a leading figure in the genre. This is further enhanced by his impressive dancing skills and energetic stage presence.
AFM in Zimbabwe has produced numerous successful musicians, including Mercy Mutsvene, Mathias Mhere, Bethany Pasinawako, Kuda Mutsvene, Minister Micheal and Father Mahendere, Sebastian Magacha, Mai and Baba Charamba, and Trymore Bande, among others who have all become pillars of the Zimbabwean gospel music industry. Some of these musicians have remained with AFM whilst others are now ministering with other denominations.
Mupositori Maware launched his career in 2017 with his debut album, featuring the hit song “Mapositori Rugare Ngariwande.” The success of this track earned him the nickname “Mupositori,” a title that has become synonymous with his distinctive style of gospel music.
A turning point in his career came when the President of AFM in Zimbabwe, Reverend Madawo discovered that it was Tatenda Maware behind the music that he usually played in his car. Impressed, the President invited him to perform at that year’s annual conference and this was the beginning of his great assignment. Since then, he performs at national conferences and various church events across the country.
His second album, Tinorwa Nemabvi, the track “Laybye,” included the inspirational lines “Famba Mupositori Usanete” (Persevere, Don’t Tire). From this, fans coined the new name “Famba Mupositori,” a name which has since stuck with him.
When Maware takes the stage, his voice and dynamic dance moves radiate hope and inspiration. His exceptional dance skills have garnered widespread acclaim, and since 2017, he has consistently received rave reviews for his captivating performances.
Born in Bulawayo, Maware faced numerous challenges that shaped his perspective on life. Growing up in a difficult environment, he often had to take menial jobs to survive. However, music provided him with a much-needed escape and comfort, becoming his guiding light through trials and tribulations.
When asked about his music creation process, Mupositori said he sees himself as a vessel used by God.
“I don’t dream songs, but when a melody comes to mind, I record it immediately. It’s a gift from God, and I’m humbled to be a vessel.”
Maware expressed deep gratitude to those who have supported him: “I’m grateful to everyone, from family and friends to fans. God has been faithful, transforming my struggles into songs of praise.”
Since his debut, Maware has remained loyal to T&C Records, with Gift Chipisa as his producer. His 2019 album, “Tinorwa Nemabvi” (We Fight Through Prayer), featured six soul-stirring tracks, including “David and Goliath” and “Tichinamata.” In 2022, he released the album “Step By Step,” which included standout songs like “Magetsi” and “Ngazvitange Neni.”
His 2024 offering, “Kubata kwaMwari Kunoshamisa,” includes the hit “Ndini Uya Uya,” a personal reflection on his life’s journey.
Last month, he released a single track titled Ndiye Mwari, which is already doing well on gospel charts.
