A 25-year-old woman from Glen Norah, Alice Mapfunde, is exhibiting strange behavior after allegedly stealing cash amounting to $1500 from her employer at a grocery store in Harare.
Pretty Chakanaka, the owner of the shop at Chitubu Shopping Centre, confirmed that she lost money and, after confronting her employees without success, sought help from Bishop Matika of Dzivarasekwa Extension, who is renowned for using divine power to track down thieves.
Alice had been employed at the grocery store for six months before the recent incident which seems to have disrupted the otherwise positive relationship between her and the shop owner.
The loss was discovered during a day stock take, leading to numerous phone calls to Alice who had left the shop at an unusual time.
Chakanaka recounted the day the money went missing: “Alice asked to leave work early, claiming she had a headache. When we checked the cash, we found it was gone. I then confronted her, but she denied taking anything. I even asked her about the other money I had given to her for safekeeping, but she continued saying she had left it at the usual place.”
Following the theft, Alice stopped coming to work. “I tried to talk to her, but she was uncooperative. She even said, ‘Go and report to the police, but they will just beat me for nothing because I didn’t steal’, Chakanaka recalled.
“I then sought help from Bishop Matika of Dzivarasekwa Extension, who suggested that I talk to all potential suspects and encourage them to return the money.”
After speaking to the employees without any outcome, the employer got back to Bishop Matika, also known as Bishop Samuronda, who is said to have unleashed divine power to haunt and reveal the culprit.
The following day, Alice reportedly arrived at Chakanaka’s home with her sister, displaying erratic behavior. The employer then suggested they go to Bishop Matika for assistance.
Chakanaka expressed her disappointment, saying, “I considered her like a daughter, but she betrayed me. I just want my money back.”
Chakanaka’s brother, who also worked in the shop, mentioned that he felt he stood a chance of being suspected of taking the money.
Alice’s sister, Nyasha Mapfunde, added that she had not seen any of the missing money, as most of Alice’s belongings were in Glen Norah, and she only came to their Hopely residence during her off days.
When the news crew visited Bishop Matika’s church, thee situation was tense as Alice was exhibiting strange behavior, scratching her body and occasionally crying. Her sister, who sat by her side to calm her, expressed concern, noting that Alice had stopped eating and speaking, complicating their communication.
Chakanaka said she needed her money back and was hoping the money can be recovered.
Bishop Matika, well acclaimed for his ability to locate stolen property, emphasized the importance of hard work and integrity. He assured that Alice would receive help but cautioned against theft.
