Zimbabwe’s mobile network operator, NetOne, has announced its collaboration with Mutasa Rural District Council and other local stakeholders for the National Clean-Up Day and installation of outdoor bins, showcasing its commitment to environmental stewardship and community development.

This clean-up initiative, set for Friday, November 1, 2024, at Hauna Business Centre, aligns with NetOne’s mission to uplift communities through corporate social responsibility. The initiative seeks to tackle environmental challenges by reducing litter, preventing pollution, and promoting sustainable practices within local communities.

NetOne’s Chief Commercial Officer, Learnmore Musunda, highlighted that the project aims to address environmental issues while encouraging sustainable habits. “NetOne is not just about connecting people through telecom services; we’re also about connecting with the environment and the communities we serve,” he said. “Our participation in National Clean-Up Day showcases our commitment to making a positive impact beyond the digital realm.”

Musunda further noted that NetOne has consistently participated in clean-up initiatives in partnership with the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) and other stakeholders, but this time it includes new bin installations for proper waste disposal. He added, “The National Clean-Up Day is a collective effort to preserve the environment. It’s a day where individuals and organizations come together to promote recycling, proper waste disposal, and environmental awareness.”

Tatenda Makumborenga, Acting Head of Marketing at NetOne, emphasized that the clean-up fosters a sense of community pride. “Beyond environmental benefits, it unifies people and creates shared responsibility towards our surroundings. As a network, NetOne cares and will continue ensuring that communities stay united and healthy,” Makumborenga said. Looking ahead, NetOne intends to extend its clean-up efforts to more communities for greater environmental impact.

In addition to its environmental efforts, NetOne has been a leader in advancing digital connectivity and innovative services throughout Zimbabwe. Tatenda Makumborenga outlined some of NetOne’s key initiatives, including:
