Zimbabwe’s Brightest Minds Clash in Old Mutual High School Quiz Finale Today

HARARE — Thirty-two of Zimbabwe’s top high schools are facing off today in the grand finale of the Old Mutual High School Quiz, competing for the national championship title and a combined total of $16,000 USD in cash prizes.

The final is taking place at The Heritage Village, where students from across Zimbabwe are putting their knowledge and teamwork to the test in one of the country’s most respected academic competitions.

According to Old Mutual Zimbabwe, the top four teams will share the prize money as follows: first place — $7,000 USD; second place — $5,000 USD; third place — $3,000 USD; and fourth place — $1,000 USD.

This year’s finalists include Zengeza 1, Mufakose 1, St John’s Emerald, Northlea, St Columbus, Kwenda, Fletcher, Anderson, Chaplin, St Mary’s Beitbridge, Mtsabezi, Sacred Heart, St Anthony, Pamushana, Masvingo Christian College, Nyanga High Marist Brothers, Emmanuel, Hartzel, Chipindura, St Alberts, Bradley, Goromonzi, Wise Owl, Rusununguko, Kariyangwe, Fatima, Lulu Adventist, Sandringham, Moleli, and Nemakonde.

Students from across Zimbabwe have had the opportunity to participate in this prestigious contest, which not only rewards academic excellence but also promotes teamwork, leadership, and critical thinking skills.

The Heritage Village, which hosts the final today, has been applauded for serving as a versatile venue that preserves history, celebrates culture, and provides an inspiring setting for important national events such as this one. The choice of venue reflects the organisers’ commitment to showcasing Zimbabwe’s heritage while investing in its future.

In the build-up to today’s contest, participants took part in a full-day personal development conference organised by Old Mutual Zimbabwe. The workshop covered financial literacy through the On the Money programme, career guidance and inspirational sessions delivered by Old Mutual staff, youth confidence and an educational tour of the Liberation Museum.

Old Mutual has been widely commended for its continued investment in the holistic development of students and its unwavering support for initiatives that build young people’s confidence, knowledge, and readiness for the future.

Zimbabwean students have consistently demonstrated remarkable talent and resilience, with many young achievers proving they can compete — and even outshine — their peers on global academic platforms. This evening, the quiz finale will conclude with a dinner to celebrate the students’ achievements and honour the schools that continue to nurture excellence. Final results are expected to be announced later tonight.
