A high-level delegation from the Secretariat of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) is currently in Madagascar to wrap up final preparations for the upcoming SADC Heads of State and Government Summit set for August 2025. The team is led by the Deputy Executive Secretary for Corporate Affairs, Dr Judith Kateera.
The mission aims to assess Madagascar’s readiness to host the regional gathering, which will bring together leaders from across Southern Africa. As part of their visit, the Secretariat team inspected key facilities, including the airport and hotels earmarked for accommodation, and offered guidance on areas that require fine-tuning before the Summit.
During the mission, the delegation paid a courtesy call on Honourable Rafaravavitafika Rasata, Madagascar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, on 21 July 2025. Honourable Minister Rasata commended the Secretariat for its dedication in supporting Madagascar’s efforts to host a successful Summit. She reiterated the country’s commitment and readiness to deliver a smooth and well-organised event.
For her part, Dr Kateera expressed her gratitude for the progress made so far and shared her confidence that Madagascar is well-prepared to host the Heads of State and Government. The delegation is also scheduled to hold talks with the Minister of Finance as part of the final checks.
This year’s Summit, the 45th gathering of SADC Heads of State and Government, will mark Madagascar’s assumption of the SADC Chairmanship for the next year until August 2026.
The main Summit will be preceded by the Council of Ministers meeting, where senior officials will review and clear key documents for adoption by the Heads of State and Government.
