Delegates attending this year’s Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Week took their commitment beyond conference rooms on Friday by rolling up their sleeves for a community clean-up campaign in Harare.
The activity dovetail with the National Clean-Up Day, observed on the first Friday of every month since President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared the initiative in December 2018 to tackle littering and promote environmental stewardship countrywide.

The delegates later visited the Geo Pomona Waste Management site to gain firsthand insight into practical, innovative solutions for modern waste management. At Geo Pomona, they toured the facility, which has emerged as a model for transforming refuse into a valuable resource. The project’s success has paved the way for similar initiatives to be rolled out across Zimbabwe, contributing to cleaner cities and greener, more sustainable communities.

MEL Week brings together government officials, civil society, development partners and academics to strengthen a culture of monitoring and evaluation in public programmes. The week-long event promotes best practices that ensure resources are used effectively and results benefit ordinary citizens.
Zinbabwe continues to push towards Vision 2030, combining robust monitoring systems with environmental responsibility is proving critical to sustainable development.
