HARARE – Professor Arthur G. O. Mutambara, a distinguished academic, technology strategist, and former Deputy Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, is set to deliver a public lecture at the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) on 15 August 2025.
The event, themed “Making the AI Revolution Work for Africa”, will run from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Engineering Hall and is hosted by the School of Information Science and Technology together with the Centre of Artificial Intelligence.
Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) is a technopreneurship university that combines technology education with entrepreneurial skills to prepare students to innovate and create impactful solutions.
The upcoming AI lecture is important because it will provide essential knowledge on artificial intelligence, enabling students to harness this transformative technology for future business and technological advancements.
Mutambara, who currently serves as Director and Full Professor at the Institute for the Future of Knowledge at the University of Johannesburg, is widely recognised for his expertise in control systems, robotics, and artificial intelligence.

He leads the Decentralised Artificial Intelligence and Control Systems Research Group and has previously held research and teaching positions at global institutions including MIT, NASA, Carnegie Mellon University, and the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering.
He is also a prolific author, with engineering works such as Decentralized Estimation and Control for Multisensor Systems, Design and Analysis of Control Systems, and Driving the Fourth Industrial Revolution: Design and Analysis of Control Systems.

His celebrated autobiographical trilogy, In Search of the Elusive Zimbabwean Dream, spans from his formative years to his political and post-political career. In 2025, he published Artificial Intelligence: A Driver of Inclusive Development and Shared Prosperity for the Global South, offering a blueprint for leveraging AI to bridge development gaps.

As a sought-after speaker, Mutambara has addressed global platforms such as the Oxford Union and has been featured in public discourse on technology, leadership, and African transformation.
His upcoming HIT lecture is expected to provide a blend of technical expertise and strategic vision, offering students, academics, policymakers, and innovators insights into how Africa can harness AI for inclusive and sustainable growth.
