The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has set Monday, February 2, 2026, as the official opening date for Lower Six classes, instructing all secondary schools offering Advanced Level education to enroll students on that day and levy fees only for the remaining portion of the first term.
The directive is contained in a circular addressed to Chief Directors for Provincial Education Services and signed by Acting Permanent Secretary Lameck Mudyiwa. It applies to both public and private institutions nationwide.
Mudyiwa said school authorities must ensure that heads, teachers, parents and pupils are adequately informed of the commencement date.
“The commencement date for the 2026 Lower Six classes is Monday, the 2nd of February 2026,” the circular reads.
The ministry further directed schools to calculate fees for Lower Six students on a pro-rata basis, using each institution’s approved term fees and the number of teaching days left in Term One.
Officials said the measure is intended to ensure fairness in fee payments, given the shortened period of attendance during the first term for Lower Six pupils.
The announcement comes as schools prepare for Advanced Level enrollments following the release of Ordinary Level examination results. Education authorities have also been tasked with overseeing compliance to ensure uniform implementation of the directive across all provinces.
