Mugabe’s Son Chatunga Arrested Over Johannesburg Shooting

JOHANNESBURG – Former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe’s son Berllamine Chatunga Mugabe has been arrested in South Africa following a shooting incident that left a man critically injured, authorities confirmed.

The (SAPS) said Mugabe and a second suspect were taken into custody after an altercation at a private residence in Hyde Park, an upmarket suburb of Johannesburg.

Police say the case is being treated as attempted murder, after a gardener employed at the property sustained a gunshot wound and was rushed to hospital where he remains in critical condition.

SAPS spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said investigators are still piecing together what transpired at the scene.

“At the moment, we will be taking two people into custody… so that we can determine what actually happened.”
She confirmed that while police recovered a cartridge at the scene, a key piece of evidence is still missing.

“We did manage to find a cartridge… [but] the firearm has not yet been located.”


Authorities also revealed that suspects have not fully cooperated with investigators, complicating efforts to establish who fired the shot.

“They have not told us where the gun is. We cannot definitely say who shot.”
Mugabe, the son of former Zimbabwean President , is expected to appear in court as investigations continue.

Police say further details will be released as the case progresses through the South African legal system.
