SHAMVA — Simba Bhora secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Agama FC at Wadzanayi Stadium on Saturday in a commemorative match held in honour of the late Barnabus Mushunje, with proceeds from the fixture set to support his widow and two children.

The match, attended by local supporters and community members, served as both a competitive encounter and a tribute to Mushunje, a Simba Bhora footballer who died in a car crash in 2022 while travelling to Shamva.

Sport has always been more than competition—it is community, memory, and humanity in motion. This truth was evident throughout the afternoon as players, fans, and organisers united not only for the game, but for a shared cause.

The event highlighted how sport can transcend competition, offering a platform for healing, reflection, and giving back, while reinforcing the enduring legacy of one of their own.

At its core, the fixture reflected a deeper purpose beyond football—honouring a life that left a lasting mark on the local sporting fraternity. Mushunje’s contribution to the game continues to resonate, despite his untimely passing.

The organisers of the match drew praise for prioritising solidarity and social responsibility, choosing to channel the proceeds towards the welfare of Mushunje’s family. The gesture underscored the enduring role of football clubs as pillars of community support.

Simba Bhora’s win, secured by a solitary goal, ultimately carried symbolic weight—representing not just a result on the pitch, but a collective act of remembrance and unity.
