International Day of Education Commemorated in Mashonaland West

CHINHOYI – Zimbabwe on Tuesday marked belated commemorations of the International Day of Education in Mashonaland West, with government reaffirming its commitment to inclusive and learner-centred education under the Heritage-Based Curriculum.

The event, held at Chinhoyi High School, was organised by the with support from , and drew education stakeholders, development partners, school heads, teachers and learners.

Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Hon Gata, officiated at the event, while Hon Marrian Chombo, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland West, welcomed delegates to the province.

Officials at the event underscored the transformative role of education in national development, stressing the importance of empowering young people to actively participate in shaping Zimbabwe’s future.

The commemorations also highlighted the role of youth in co-creating learning within the Heritage-Based Curriculum, which focuses on innovation, cultural identity and practical skills development.

Stakeholders reflected on progress made in expanding access to education, particularly for vulnerable groups, while calling for continued collaboration between government and development partners.

The programme reaffirmed Government’s commitment to building an inclusive education system that responds to the needs of learners and supports national development priorities.

The International Day of Education is commemorated globally to promote the role of education in advancing peace, sustainable development and equal opportunities.
