The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will next week conduct a nationwide Curriculum Review exercise as part of the process to design a new curriculum.

The exercise, which will be held at schools across the country on the 23-24 May 2023 from 0830hrs to 1700hrs, comes after the expiry of the previous curriculum in December 2022.

The Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (CALA) component is expected to be the centre of focus, given the concerns that have been raised by stakeholders over the years.

In a statement the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs Tumisang Thabela, said stakeholders should not miss this opportunity to contribute to the important exercise.

“This is an opportunity for the internal stakeholders to participate in deciding the education we want as a nation. Their views are important to shape our education for Socio-Economic development.

“Please spread the word for them not to miss this opportunity to improve the Competence-Based Curriculum in the Ministry’s quest of providing equitable and inclusive 21st century quality education, leaving no one and no place behind,” reads the statement.

In the past weeks, ministry was holding training for its officers on how to conduct the reviews.

The Curriculum Review exercise seeks to receive recommendations from different stakeholders on how to view the entire curriculum including the formative examination situation better known as CALA.

Ever since the release of the communication from the Ministry, schools have been inviting parents to attend.
