In a recent press statement, Manyara Irene Muyenziwa, President of FORUS Party, issued a scathing condemnation of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Zimbabwe, attributing it to the actions of land barons. Muyenziwa expressed deep concern over the destruction of homes in various provinces, stating, “It is heartbreaking that people who have lived for years in their homes are now being evicted and labelled as squatters, even though they were given the land by the Chiefs and other authorities.”
The FORUS Party leader emphasized the need for immediate government intervention to address the crisis and prioritize the welfare of citizens. Muyenziwa declared, “The government must show compassion and respect for the citizens and ensure that their welfare is paramount.”
FORUS Party has been a vocal critic of land barons, denouncing their activities as causing immense suffering to the population. Muyenziwa mourned the loss of lives in recent flash floods triggered by heavy rains in illegally allocated settlements, stating, “This was a consequence of land barons who allocated people in wetlands, without regard for their safety.”
The party also condemned the ruthless demolition of houses built on unlawfully acquired land, leaving many families homeless and impoverished. Muyenziwa asserted, “Many families have been rendered homeless and impoverished, with no alternative shelter or compensation.”
Identifying corruption and lack of accountability as root causes of the land crisis, FORUS Party called for urgent government action. Muyenziwa demanded, “The government must conduct a thorough audit of all land transactions and allocations in the country, and expose and prosecute all land barons and their accomplices, regardless of their political affiliation or position.”
The party reiterated its commitment to supporting affected citizens and fighting for justice and security. Muyenziwa urged citizens to remain vigilant against illegal land dealings and called on civil society to stand in solidarity with those impacted by the crisis.
