Bluff Hill, Harare, witnessed a bustling scene this Saturday as members of the Muslim community gathered to witness the inauguration of the Muslim Entrepreneurs Association of Zimbabwe (MEAZ).
The MEAZ endeavors to empower and unite Muslim entrepreneurs in Zimbabwe through innovative initiatives, robust support networks, and sustainable opportunities, thereby fostering economic growth, social impact, and community development.
The launch of the flagship association dovetails with Zimbabwe’s current development agenda, which has entrepreneurship at its core, recognizing it as pivotal to national advancement.
Similarly, entrepreneurship holds a special significance in Islam, as it encourages individuals to actively engage in economic activities, create wealth, and contribute positively to society’s welfare.
These ethos are in sync with Zimbabwe’s vision for economic progress and social transformation.
Young Muslim entrepreneurs in Zimbabwe are seizing opportunities provided by the government’s various socio-economic programs under the National Development Strategy 1.
According to recent population census data, Zimbabwe boasts approximately 15 million people, representing diverse religious inclinations, with Christianity comprising about 80% of the population.
Notably, there are approximately 1.5 million Muslims in the country, comprising immigrants from India, Pakistan, indigenous individuals, and migrants from East and West Africa.
