Real Champions, a dynamic detergent manufacturing enterprise based in Harare, is making significant strides in the Glenview and Glen Norah suburbs with its innovative products and community-centric services.
Founded by Tatenda Havazvidi, a resilient entrepreneur born HIV positive, Real Champions does not only produce a diverse range of high-quality detergent products but also provides extensive training in detergent manufacturing, raw material procurement, and effective marketing strategies.
This initiative is not only imparting practical business skills to the community members but also generating sustainable income opportunities within the local community.
In addition, the organization offers essential counseling services tailored to young people living with HIV, fostering resilience and hope across the community.
Havazvidi, committed to community empowerment, has dedicated himself to equipping individuals with skills that span the entire detergent production process—from sourcing materials to local market penetration—enhancing entrepreneurial capabilities and stimulating local economic growth. Zimbabwean economy is highly dependant on Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
According to government statistics, Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) represent 90% of all businesses in Zimbabwe, generating around 60% of Gross Domestic Product and more than 50% of employment.
The importance of this sector extends beyond economic contribution as it provides livelihoods to the most vulnerable segments of the workforce: women and youth. Hence, efforts by Real Champions are no mean feat.
Real Champions’ dedication to producing affordable, locally-made detergent products not only bolsters the local economy but also instills pride among community members who actively support these initiatives, knowing their purchases contribute to improved livelihoods for local families.
Tatenda’s life journey stands as a powerful testimony to courage and determination. Despite facing numerous challenges growing up with HIV, he refused to let his condition limit his aspirations. Now, he aims to inspire others facing similar circumstances.
“Real Champions isn’t just about soap. It’s about demonstrating to young people that they can pursue their dreams and lead fulfilling lives, regardless of their circumstances,” Tatenda highlighted.
Real Champions is currently promoting mental health among individuals managing HIV illnesses.
The organization also provides a supportive environment for sharing experiences, receiving guidance, and building nurturing relationships among participants.
Anashe Samvura, a beneficiary of the program, expressed her gratitude, saying, “I never imagined learning a trade, but Real Champions taught me everything about detergent production. Now, I run my own small business proudly.”
Looking ahead, Tatenda Havazvidi envisions expanding Real Champions’ impact beyond Glenview and Glen Norah, aspiring to reach more communities across Harare and Zimbabwe as a whole with its transformative programs.
“Our goal is to empower as many young people as possible. Through skills training and counseling, we’re creating a network of empowered individuals who support each other and contribute to a more inclusive society,” Havazvidi asserted.
