President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Some Regional leaders are welcomed at Geo

Harare, Zimbabwe – President Emmerson Mnangagwa, also the newly elected SADC Chairperson, showcased Zimbabwe’s innovative waste management project, Geo Pomona Waste Management (Pvt) Ltd, to regional leaders and dignitaries on August 18, 2024.
The project, a partnership between the government, City of Harare, and local communities, aims to address environmental challenges and generate electricity for the national grid. President Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of sustainable waste management, citing the negative impacts of rapid urbanization and population growth.
The Geo Pomona initiative demonstrates Zimbabwe’s commitment to environmental renewal and protection, aligning with the SADC theme of promoting innovation for sustainable economic growth and industrialization. The project’s focus on renewable energy, youth and women employment, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions resonates with regional and global sustainability goals.
President Mnangagwa encouraged regional leaders to adopt innovative solutions, adapt best practices, and prioritize environmental sensitive waste management systems. He emphasized the collective responsibility to drive modernization, industrialization, and development, leaving no one behind.
The tour showcased Zimbabwe’s efforts to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable development, setting an example for the region to follow.
