Harare, Zimbabwe – The 44th Ordinary SADC Summit reached its pinnacle last night as leaders gathered for a state banquet hosted by President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the State House.
In his welcoming remarks, President Mnangagwa emphasized the significance of the occasion, citing a Shona idiom that “relationships are cemented when we partake of a meal together.” He expressed gratitude to the leaders for their presence, acknowledging the shared historical, cultural, and liberation heritage that binds the region.

The banquet provided a platform for leaders to unwind and celebrate milestones achieved, while also fostering people-to-people exchanges and bilateral cooperation. President Mnangagwa invited the leaders to participate in the remaining summit events, including a tour of the Geo-Pomona Plant and the groundbreaking ceremony for the SADC Liberation Square.
The evening culminated in a toast to the continued good health of the leaders, regional unity and solidarity, and the socio-economic well-being of the SADC region’s citizens. The banquet showcased Zimbabwean cuisine and hospitality, with leaders and delegates mingling in a relaxed atmosphere.
