Cde David Chapfika

Former Deputy Minister of Finance, Member of Parliament for Mutoko and senior ZANU PF official Cde David Chapfika has died following a tragic road traffic accident that occurred near Chabwino, along the Harare-Shamva road on Thursday.
Cde Chapfika was driving a Mercedes-Benz ML when his vehicle collided with another car. He died on the spot. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, and further details are expected to be released in due course.
As a farmer, Chapfika owned Hurudza Farm in Shamva, a 200 hectares farm where he did various agricultural crop production and livestock.
A distinguished economist and veteran politician, Cde Chapfika dedicated decades of his life to serving the nation. He represented Mutoko North and South Constituencies in Parliament and held numerous senior positions within ZANU PF, including his current role as a Central Committee member at the time of his passing. He also served as chairperson of the National Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Board.
A qualified economist, Cde Chapfika brought deep technical knowledge and patriotic commitment to his government duties, contributing significantly to Zimbabwe’s economic discourse during a critical period in the country’s development. He served as Deputy Minister of Finance in the early 2000s, where he played a vital role in shaping national fiscal and economic policies.
Tributes have poured in from across the political, economic, and civic spheres, with many remembering him as a principled leader, a mentor to younger cadres, and a man who held firm to his convictions in service of national progress.
Sabhuku Mliswa wrote, “My condolences to the Chapfika family following the passing away of former Deputy Minister of Finance David Chapfika. We worked well with him in Parliament. Quite an intelligent and astute person in many things,” he said.
Minister Advocate Misheck Mugadza said he was deeply saddened to hear about the tragic death of Former Deputy Finance Minister David Chapfika.
“May his family find strength in this difficult time, and may his contributions to the Ministry of Finance and the nation be remembered and celebrated,” he said.
Prof Mavhima also wrote on his social media, “My deepest condolences on the tragic passing of Former Deputy Finance Minister David Chapfika. May his family find strength and comfort during this difficult time. May his legacy and contributions be remembered and cherished. Rest in peace, Honourable Chapfika”.
Burial arrangements will be announced in due course. May His Soul Rest in Eternal Peace.
