The Lion Does Not Ask for Permission!!

By Tatenda Vimbe

I remember the first time I truly understood what it means to have a lion mentality. I was just starting out—full of dreams, full of hope, and full of fear. Fear of failure, fear of judgment, fear of not being “ready.” I kept asking myself: Do I have permission to start? Do I deserve to be here? Will people accept me?

Then it hit me. A lion never asks for permission. A lion does not wait for someone to nod, approve, or hand over a crown. It moves because survival demands it. It hunts because hunger is real. It roars because it owns its place in the jungle. And that is exactly the mindset every beginner, every dreamer, every person standing on the edge of their vision needs to embrace.

Too often, we wait. We wait for validation from others—family, friends, colleagues, even strangers. We wait for the “perfect moment,” the “perfect plan,” or the “perfect resources.” And while we wait, life passes by. Dreams remain dreams. Ideas stay locked inside notebooks. Opportunities slip away quietly.

Here is what I want you to hear: You do not need permission to start. You do not need approval to try. You do not need perfection to move. The first step is yours to take, and it is yours alone.

When I was beginning my journey, I had little more than a vision and an unshakable belief in myself. People doubted me. Some laughed. Some told me to be realistic. But I learned early that waiting for their approval was a luxury I could not afford. I had to act, even when I didn’t feel ready. And that is exactly what a lion does—it acts. It trusts its instincts. It takes bold steps, knowing that hesitation is the enemy of progress.

Being a beginner is not a weakness. It is your greatest advantage. Why? Because you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Every experience, every lesson, every mistake is training. And the best part is, no one can take your training away from you. It becomes part of your character, part of your mindset, part of the lion inside you.

I want every beginner reading this to understand: courage is not the absence of fear; courage is action despite fear. You will feel fear. You will doubt yourself. You may even fail. And that is okay. The lion does not fear the hunt—it respects it. It learns. It adapts. And it goes again, every single day.

I also want dreamers to remember this: your dreams are not too big. The jungle does not fear the lion because it is small; it fears the lion because it is relentless. Your dreams will challenge you. They will scare you. They will test your patience and your discipline. But do not shrink them to make others comfortable. Do not apologize for the size of your vision. Grow into your dreams, and let your actions speak louder than the doubts around you.

Finally, remember this—movement creates momentum. Sitting idle, waiting for permission, waiting for the right circumstances, waiting for the world to approve you, is the fastest way to remain invisible. The lion does not wait. The lion moves, and with every move, the world begins to take notice.

So today, I challenge you: release the need for permission. Trust your instincts. Take the step that scares you. Speak the words that intimidate you. Build the project that excites you. The road will not be easy, but it will be worth it. You have a lion inside you—a mind that can strategize, a heart that can endure, and a spirit that can roar. Let it out. Let it move. Let it claim its place.

Because the truth is simple: the world does not hand out permission slips to those who are meant to lead, to create, to inspire. The world rewards those who move, who act, who refuse to wait. And that is exactly how you begin.

Do not wait. The lion does not ask for permission.
