The late Justice Chatukuta

Zimbabwe is mourning the death of Supreme Court Judge, Honourable Justice Felicitas Chatukuta who passed away in Harare on Saturday, 22 November 2025, at the age of 63.
In a statement released yesterday, the Chief Justice of Zimbabwe and Chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Justice Luke Malaba, led the judiciary in mourning the loss of one of the country’s longest-serving female jurists.
“The Judicial Service Commission and the entire justice fraternity have lost a dedicated, principled, and hardworking judicial officer,” Chief Justice Malaba said. “We extend our deepest condolences to the Chatukuta family during this difficult time.”
Mourners are gathering at Number 18 Lower Hampden Road, Marlborough, Harare. The JSC confirmed that funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
Justice Chatukuta’s distinguished legal career spanned four decades. She was appointed a High Court Judge on 29 August 2005, a position she held for 16 years before her elevation to the Supreme Court on 3 June 2021. She earned her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Zimbabwe in 1985, subsequently serving as a Public Prosecutor and later lecturing part-time at the university. She also served as a director at the Legal Aid Directorate.
Her passing marks the end of a trailblazing career for one of Zimbabwe’s most respected female judges. Justice Chatukuta’s contributions to the legal system have left an indelible mark on the country’s judicial history.
