Mobile network giant NetOne has rolled out a dedicated Tourist SIM Card, a smart prepaid solution designed to give short-term visitors instant, affordable and seamless connectivity the moment they arrive in the country.
The Tourist SIM is an all-in-one package offering voice, SMS and data services, and is available free of charge to eligible foreign visitors who present a valid passport or recognised travel document. The service is designed to eliminate the need for long-term contracts or local residency requirements, with distribution points established at airports to ensure immediate access for travellers.
According to NetOne, the Tourist SIM will be offered in both physical SIM and eSIM formats, enhancing convenience for international visitors using modern devices. Once activated, the SIM remains valid for 90 days, while bundled services run for 30 days from the date of subscription.
Affordable Tourist Bundles
NetOne has introduced three Tourist Bundle options priced in United States dollars:
- US$16: 2GB peak data, 1GB off-peak data, 30 all-net voice minutes and 30 SMS
- US$20: 4GB peak data, 1GB off-peak data, 50 all-net voice minutes and 50 SMS
- US$40: 8GB peak data, 2GB off-peak data, 100 all-net voice minutes and 100 SMS
All bundles are valid for 30 days, after which unused balances expire.
Simple Airport Activation Process
NetOne has outlined a streamlined activation process to be completed at airport service desks. Tourists are first welcomed and informed that the SIM card itself is free. Mandatory registration is then carried out using the visitor’s original passport to comply with regulatory requirements.
After registration, customers are advised on suitable packages based on their communication needs and assisted to purchase and load the required airtime. Final activation is completed by dialing *401#, with staff ensuring that data, voice and SMS bundles are active before the customer leaves the service desk.
Usage Conditions
The operator clarified that Tourist SIM bundled services are for use within Zimbabwe only. International calls and SMS are excluded and can only be accessed by recharging the main wallet at prevailing international rates. The Tourist SIM is also not eligible for local promotions or standard NetOne bundles available to residents.
The introduction of the Tourist SIM is expected to enhance visitor experience, support the tourism sector and align with Zimbabwe’s broader efforts to improve ease of travel and digital connectivity for international guests.
