Zimbabwe’s legendary footballer and coach Rahman “Dr Rush” Gumbo has died. He was 59.

Gumbo reportedly suffered a heart attack at his home in Botswana on Thursday and later died at the hospital where he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit.

In a social media post, Morupule Wanderers midfielder Moshe Ndlovu shared the news of Rahman Gumbo’s death.

“Life is too short can’t believe you are no more my father my everything will always love and miss you,” wrote the midfielder.

After a brilliant spell as a player with Highlanders where he won the league two times, Rahman Gumbo went on to coach a number of premier league teams in Zimbabwe, and Botswana with whom he got some silverware.

At home Gumbo coached the Warriors, Highlanders, FC Platinum, Chicken Inn, and TelOne while abroad he coached Gaborone United, Sua Flamingos and Moropule Wanderers.

He joined Moropule Wanderers in January this year on a two year contract but a string of poor results saw his contract terminated three days ago.

He will be sadly missed given his wealth of football knowledge and experience.
