Tshabangu In Fresh Bid To Stop Chamisa’s 23 Candidates from Contesting 3 February Elections

By Dickson Bandera

Disputed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu today filed a High Court application seeking to bar 23 candidates from contesting as CCC members in the upcoming February 3  by-elections.

In his application,  Tshabangu sought  an interdict from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and the Ministry of Justice Legal and Parliamentary Affairs to exclude 23 candidates from ballot paper on the basis that they are no longer CCC members submitting they have not been readmitted into the party after recalls.

The 23 candidates successfully filed their nominations to contest on CCC party ticket but Tshabangu says this is illegal given that there is a High Court ruling which  another made it clear that recalled legislators cannot represent the CCC party.

Last year, CCC was confronted with a similar scenario and Tshabangu contested and won the High Court challenge  hence he will be hoping to ride on the precedence.

Some of the targeted candidates are Amos Chibaya and Gift Siziba.
