Zimbabwe Senior Soccer Team, The Warriors

By Dickson Bandera

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has announced an exciting initiative aimed at involving local talent in the creation of a new kit and logo for the national football team, the Warriors.

The competition, which is set to run for the next six weeks, invites Zimbabwean designers to submit their concepts for the Warriors’ official attire and emblem, marking a new era for the national team as it prepares for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The move is part of ZIFA’s broader reform strategy to rebuild Zimbabwean football, under the new leadership that has sought to restore pride and unity within the sport.

Through the creativity of local designers, ZIFA hopes to foster a deeper connection between the national team and the Zimbabwean public, while also giving local talent a platform to showcase their skills on an international stage.

The winning designer will receive a prize of US$3,000, along with an all-expenses-paid trip to watch the Warriors’ first game at the AFCON finals. This opportunity not only serves as a reward for the winning designer but also underscores the importance of the competition, as the new kit and logo will represent the team’s ambitions and aspirations on one of the biggest football stages in Africa.

The competition comes at a pivotal time for Zimbabwean football, with the Warriors looking to break past the group stages at the upcoming AFCON tournament. The team, under the new leadership at ZIFA, is benefitting from a more structured environment with resolved financial issues and the hiring of a full-time national coach.

These reforms are expected to bring out the best in the team, who are eager to showcase their talent and push for a strong showing in the competition.

As Zimbabwe heads into the tournament, the new Warriors kit and logo will symbolize a fresh start and a renewed sense of purpose. With a pool of talented players and a nation rallying behind them, the hope is that the Warriors will not only perform well at AFCON but also create a lasting legacy for Zimbabwean football.

Designers have six weeks to submit their entries, with ZIFA emphasizing that the competition is open to both professional and amateur designers.

The judging panel will consist of industry experts, as well as representatives from ZIFA and the Zimbabwean football community. The competition offers a unique opportunity for local designers to contribute to the national identity and leave their mark on the country’s football history.
