The Highfield Area Zone League brought the community together in spectacular fashion on Workers’ Day, as local football clubs lit up the public holiday with high-intensity matches that thrilled fans and showcased rising talent in Zimbabwean grassroots football.
Despite the day being a public holiday when families might have chosen other recreational activities, players and fans alike brought their passion to the pitch, creating an electric atmosphere that celebrated both the spirit of sport and community unity.
The Highfield community, home to renowned football players and administrators, continues to uphold its proud legacy, with young talents consistently demonstrating that the area will keep producing football greats.
Playing on Workers Day was deeply symbolic as the games honored the countless individuals whose livelihoods are sustained by the beautiful game. Football in its entirety, serves as a significant employer, generating a wide array of job opportunities both on and off the field.
Reigning ZIFA Area Zones Champions of Champions, Bluestone, lived up to expectations with a commanding 3-1 victory over K Rovers. Demonstrating superiority in every department, Bluestone controlled possession, dictated the pace, and executed their game plan with precision from start to finish.
“I’m happy with the win. It’s all thanks to the unity and hard work of my players, winning the Champions of Champions trophy gave us the motivation to keep pushing forward.” said Bluestone coach Cleto Zezere.
In another fixture, Highfield Academy secured a commanding 2-1 victory over M&R Products in a largely one-sided encounter, showcasing sharp passing, resolute defending, and clinical finishing.

The quality of officiating also drew praise, with the match handled professionally from start to finish.
“We played well and deserved the win, especially with our second-half push today the referees were fair on both sides,” said striker Yance Tafadzwa Zvomuya.
Denford Chioma of M&R was shown a red card during the match, reducing his side to ten men and impacting their efforts on the field.
In a battle of youth versus experience, Nyerere FC edged out Chillspot FC 2-1 in a high-tempo encounter. Nyerere’s young squad showcased speed, resilience, and tactical awareness, coming from behind to seal a memorable victory.
“This win gives our young lads great confidence,it wasn’t easy, but we showed character to fight back,” said team manager Sunny Chovanga.

Chillspot coach Tonderai Bonde praised the level of competition and the tactical growth of young players.
“Our game with Nyerere was very intense. Most of the Nyerere players are under 16, and you can clearly see their tactical and technical development. It’s great for grassroots football,” he remarked.
The Highfield Area Zone League continues to provide a vital platform for aspiring footballers, allowing them to gain competitive experience and catch the eye of scouts from higher leagues. With strong community support and rising standards on the field, the league remains a cornerstone of Highfield’s sporting calendar.
