Zimbabwe’s creative industry has received a welcome boost, with the Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust and the European Union Delegation announcing grants totalling USD $27,929 under the CreativeACTIONs 2 programme.

Revealed in Harare on Wednesday, the latest funding round supports four innovative cultural initiatives aimed at enhancing inclusion, economic empowerment, and international collaboration—areas critical to the sustainable growth of Zimbabwe’s arts sector.

The grants, ranging between USD $1,598 and $10,000, will go toward diverse projects. These include a disability-inclusive visual arts exhibition spotlighting persons with albinism, a jewellery-making initiative empowering 100 women to turn local gemstones into income-generating products, and a mobility grant for a young theatre educator participating in an international exchange programme in Germany.

Also benefiting from the funding is an international theatre and arts festival set to showcase Zimbabwean and global talent, promoting cross-cultural dialogue and expanding the country’s artistic footprint abroad.

The initiative comes at a time when creatives continue to grapple with limited access to resources, despite Zimbabwe’s deep well of cultural talent.

The EU remains a key partner in supporting local arts and broadening their reach to appreciative international audiences.
