President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to narrowing the developmental gap between rural and urban communities, emphasizing equal access to education, technology, and infrastructure for all Zimbabwean children, regardless of geographic location.
Speaking during the 2025 Children’s Party as one of the prelude events for the 45th Independence Day celebrations held in Gokwe Nembudziya, Midlands Province, the President described young people as the hope and future of the nation.
“This year, we are with our children here in Gokwe Nembudziya. Let us all be reminded of the importance of this event, not just for us the adults, but especially for you, the young people and tomorrow’s leaders of our nation,” he said.
President Mnangagwa called on citizens to reflect on the sacrifices made during the liberation struggle, noting that many of those who fought for independence were young people.
“Our national independence represents the struggles and sacrifices made by many young boys and girls of the past who were just like you. It is a time to reflect on our liberation history and celebrate the progress we have made as a nation, while also looking ahead to a brighter future,” he said.
In line with this year’s theme, “Zimbabwe at 45: Devolve and Develop Together Towards Vision 2030,” the President reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusive growth.
“This theme must remind you, our children, that as government and your elders, we want you to have equal development, opportunities, and access to ICTs, whether you live in rural or urban areas,” he said.
On education, President Mnangagwa said the government is actively engaging stakeholders to ensure affordable and quality education. He also highlighted efforts to promote practical learning and skills development to prepare learners for the modern economy.
“As the Second Republic, we will continue to support the young people of our country by providing the necessary teaching and learning resources to promote both quality and inclusive education for a higher quality of life. No one and no place will be left behind,” he declared.
The President concluded by encouraging national unity and resilience in building a just, equitable, and prosperous Zimbabwe for future generations.
“Today, we celebrate our Independence and the vast potential, talent, and brilliance of our country’s children. They are the torchbearers of the dreams and aspirations for a better, modern, and industrialised Zimbabwe.”
