HARARE – The Embassy of the State of Palestine in Zimbabwe has issued a scathing condemnation of the Israeli government’s decision to halt humanitarian aid and close all border crossings to the Gaza Strip, labeling it a “crime against humanity.”
In a strongly worded statement, Ambassador Tamer Almassri denounced the actions of Israeli Prime Minister and his cabinet, particularly the blockage of water, food, and electricity, as “a blatant act of collective punishment.”
“The illegal Israeli blockade on Gaza violates international law and warrants immediate accountability under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court,” the embassy stated. “The Israeli government’s actions are a stark reminder that it is, in fact, Israel that poses a significant threat to peace and stability in the region.”
Ambassador Almassri urgently called upon the international community, especially the United Nations Security Council, to take “immediate and decisive action” to end what he described as Israel’s “ongoing crimes and violations in the occupied Palestine and ongoing genocide in Gaza.”
“The world cannot afford to turn a blind eye to these atrocities,” he emphasized. “The world must not stand idly by as Israel perpetrates these atrocities against the civilian population of Gaza.”
The State of Palestine stressed that the international community has a “moral obligation to act swiftly and decisively” to address the escalating humanitarian crisis. The embassy urged for urgent efforts to establish a permanent ceasefire and to ensure the necessary conditions for recovery and reconstruction in Gaza. Furthermore, they called for Israel to be held accountable for its “violations of international law and its crimes against humanity.”
The statement highlighted the severe consequences of the continued blockade, stating that it is a “stark reminder of the Israeli government’s disregard for human life and its willingness to inflict suffering on an entire population.”
“The continued blockade of Gaza is a stark reminder of the Israeli government’s disregard for human life and its willingness to inflict suffering on an entire population. The world must not stand by and watch as innocent civilians are subjected to such inhumane treatment.” the statement concluded.
